Computers
Entering dental students are required to have a computer that meets certain specifications outlined by the School of Dentistry. Without this computer, students will not be eligible to attend orientation or begin classes.
Students entering dental school are expected to possess basic computer competencies. These include, but are not limited to, use of a computer, use of e-mail, use of Internet browsers and use of software for word processing and data back up. Each student will be provided an institutional e-mail account and will be responsible for checking this account and responding to e-mail sent to that address.
The minimum specifications required include:
For PCs
- Minimum operating system of Windows 10
- At least 4GB RAM
- At least a Dual Core processor
- Google Chrome
For Macs
- Minimum operating system of OS 10.15 (Catalina) or higher
- At least 4GB RAM
- At least a Dual Core Processor
- Safari
- Google Chrome
Note that the iPad will not suffice as it does not navigate well with EHR. Chromebook is not compatible with the Exam Soft program used by UMMC.
Students will also need Microsoft Office and Adobe Reader (free download) or Adobe Pro (optional). Microsoft Office should include Outlook, Word and PowerPoint. Microsoft Office is included as a benefit for being a UMMC student. Privacy screens are required.
